Pakistan Rugby Sevens Team takes 6th position

Pakistan Rugby Sevens Team took 6th position out of 8 teams in the Asian Rugby Sevens Series 2010 Event held in New Delhi on April 2-3 , 2010.
Pakistan’s performance can be termed ‘Just Satisfactory’ contributing factors being the team was not sure if it could travel at all and reached Delhi the night before the tournament have received its visa’s and noc two days before the Event ( The effort s of the President of the Pakistan Olympic Association and the Secretary Sports Ministry of Finance are duly acknowledged ) , Pakistan was also placed in a tough Group with Malaysia, Sri-Lanka and Kazakhstan evident from the fact that these countries took 1st , 2nd and 3rd position in the Event respectively.
Pakistan reached the final of the bowl competition by beating Uzbekistan 17-7 points after having lost all three of its group matches.
The Bowl final against Iran would have been a close contest ( Pakistan had beaten Iran 19-17 in the Bowl semi-final in Sri-Lanka last November ), however two Pakistan players were Red carded early in the game , playing with 5 players against 7 opposing was no contest and Pakistan lost 47-0 to Iran this time.
This is the second Sevens event Pakistan has participated on the Asian circuit which has been a very useful exposure to the young squad , about 20 players have been selected and are being trained for the Seven-a-side format , the players have the speed and individual skills to compete at the Asian level, however better training is needed and efforts are being made to acquire the services of an internationally experienced Coach.
The International Rugby Union has shown keen interest to support development of Rugby in Pakistan ,
The introduction of an experienced Coach will boost the quality of Rugby in the country and help to develop local coaches from provincial / departmental teams.
